November 23, 2018 – Giving Thanks for Our Freedom
Each week, this series highlights the various ways government can encroach on our freedoms, whether through regulation from the executive branch, wasteful spending, or Congress contributing to government growth and restriction. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I hope we can all remember that the United States provides more freedom to its citizens than any other nation in the world and gives us a lot to be thankful for.
I’m personally thankful for my wife, Cindy, our children and family. Even though serving in Congress requires a lot of time apart from my family, I count it a blessing whenever I can get together with them. I am also thankful for my faith, which gives me strength, comfort, and clarity on some of Congress’ grueling days. I’m thankful for my friends whose support means so much to me. And I’m thankful for my country, and for all the men and women who have served and fought to defend our freedoms.
I am also thankful for each of my constituents and for the honor you have given me to represent you in Congress. I know we don’t always agree, but one of the greatest foundations of our country is our freedom to share our ideas, beliefs, critiques, and opinions with our government leaders. You all are very good at that and I hope you will continue! Your support and belief in our great nation gives me the encouragement I need to continue fighting for your priorities.
As you celebrate this week, I hope you are surrounded by loved ones. May Thanksgiving renew your spirits and may we always give thanks for what we have been given.
From my family to yours, happy Thanksgiving!
