Representatives Biggs and Gaetz Call for Rosenstein Subpoena

October 10, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was expected to testify this week before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees, but he will not appear. Congressman Andy Biggs and Congressman Matt Gaetz released the following statements:

“Members of the House Judiciary Committee have repeatedly called for Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein to answer questions about serious accusations that he was willing to wear a wire to gather evidence against the sitting President of the United States, and to testify about other issues. Despite speculation that he would appear on Thursday, October 11th, Rosenstein has again failed to cooperate with congressional leaders. The Judiciary Committee must now subpoena him to appear. His obstinance should not be rewarded with more delays. Rod Rosenstein has stonewalled congressional investigations for months, while allowing Special Counsel Robert Mueller to escape oversight of his investigation. Members of Congress have repeatedly called on Rosenstein to provide more transparency and to submit to congressional oversight. Unfortunately, he continually chooses to obstruct our efforts. The Deputy Attorney General must appear before the committee and provide transparency that the American people deserve.” – Congressman Andy Biggs

“I applaud Congressman Biggs for his request to subpoena Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein, who was initially scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee this Thursday, but canceled at the eleventh hour. This is serious business, and we do not take our oversight responsibility lightly. For the DOJ to continue playing hide-and-seek with Congressional interviews, however, does not inspire confidence that they are taking us seriously. I hope that a subpoena will impress upon DAG Rosenstein the gravity of our request, and I look forward to questioning him when he appears before the committee.” – Congressman Matt Gaetz
