2 Republican Representatives from Arizona slam impeachment during marathon session
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A pair of Arizona members of Congress kept up their blistering criticism of President Trump's potential impeachment Thursday during a marathon hearing on Capitol Hill.
"It just continues to amaze me how corrupt, how unfair this process has been from the start," said Rep. Debbie Lesko, a Republican from a conservative West Valley district.
Lesko sits on the House Judiciary Committee, which considered two articles of impeachment against Trump for abuse of power and obstructing justice.
Both articles stem from the actions he took this year regarding Ukraine.
Rep. Andy Biggs joined Lesko in trying to poke holes in Democratic claims, claiming the Democrats are still angry that Trump won the 2016 election.
"There's an animus there that has been manifest since Nov. 9, 2016, the day after (Trump) was elected," said Biggs, a Republican from a conservative Easy Valley district.
Biggs, the leader of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, has emerged as one of the president's top defenders since Democrats officially launched its impeachment investigation in September.
However, the lone Democrat from Arizona on the committee, said there is only one reason for impeachment.
"We are only here today voting on these two articles of impeachment because this president has chosen to put his personal interest ahead of the national interest," said Rep. Greg Stanton, a Democrat from Phoenix.
