Andy Biggs Cheers 2 Million Flying Despite Pandemic

November 23, 2020

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., on Monday praised the 2 million passengers who flew around the country over the weekend ahead of Thanksgiving, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Biggs, whose state recently surpassed 300,000 total coronavirus cases, tweeted on Monday that "Americans choose freedom," in response to the Transportation Security Administration's checkpoint travel numbers showing over 2 million screenings at airports over the last weekend.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning last week ahead of Thanksgiving stating that "the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to celebrate at home with the people you live with … Travel may increase your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. Postponing travel and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others this year."

Biggs, however, cheered Americans who refused to socially distance during the holiday, tweeting in a second post: "Many in mainstream media, bureaucrats, & radical leftists cannot stand that Americans are making their own, free decisions by traveling for Thanksgiving. Expect a historic War on Christmas in return. Opponents of freedom will be thirsty for revenge on freedom-loving Americans."
