Arizona Leaders' Reactions To Trump's Joint Session Of Congress Speech

March 1, 2017

President Trump delivered his first speech to joint session of Congress last night. The president touched on many topics including securing the border, immigration and the health care system.

Freshman Arizona Democratic congressman Tom O'Halleran said the feel of the speech was more optimistic than earlier rhetoric. But, he was still disappointed, when it came to describing the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act.

"You can't get too much done when it comes to specifics during an address like this. But, boy, it lacked a whole lot," O'Halleran said. "In particular that's something that we've been seeing throughout the course of the last two months, whether it was from the President or the Republican Leadership."

Another Freshman Congressman from Arizona, Republican Andy Biggs said he admired President Trump's call for the two parties to work together.

"I think it's possible, I think it's a big hill to overcome in a lot of ways," Biggs said. "I thought it was actually a great stroke of courage and hope."

One topic both Congressmen agreed on was the need for more specifics on the proposed spending on roads and infrastructure nationwide.
