GOP Rep Doubts Nadler will Subpoena Mueller for Testimony: He ‘Walked Himself into a Cul-de-Sac’
A Republican congressman from Arizona predicted that House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) will not subpoena former Special Counsel Robert Mueller for testimony in front of his committee.
While speaking to Fox News' "America's Newsroom" on Monday, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) — who sits on Nadler's committee — was asked if he believed Mueller would show up for testimony in front of Congress.
Biggs said that he does not think the former special counsel wants "to come back" and that he will not appear for testimony, noting that the Republicans would have some "pointed questions" for him and that Democrats would "want to mine him for criminal activity."
The Arizona Republican went on to slam the House Judiciary chairman as having "walked himself into a cul-de-sac," positing that Nadler would not subpoena Mueller for testimony because he would be forced to hold the former special counsel "in contempt" as the committee did with Attorney General William Barr.
"He doesn't really want Mueller even though he says he wants Mueller," added Biggs.
Biggs' comments came the week after Mueller held a press conference where he formally stepped down as special counsel.
As IJR News reported, Mueller announced during the press conference that he would let his 448-page report speak for itself and that he did not feel it was "appropriate for [him] to speak further" on the matter.
The conference sparked more calls for impeachment from congressional Democrats while Republicans, such as Vice President Mike Pence, have called onCongress to "move on" from the matter.
