GOP Rep Introduces Resolution to Censure Schiff, Proclaims It is ‘Inexcusable to Toy’ with Impeachment Process

September 27, 2019

Newly-minted House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-Az.) introduced a resolution to condemn House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) for his "parody" of the July phone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In a statement published Friday, Biggs — who sits on the House Judiciary Committee — announced that he had introduced a House resolution to "condemn and censure" Schiff for his "blatantly false retelling" of the conversation between the two presidents.

The Arizona Republican proclaimed that it is "inexcusable to toy" with the process of impeachment — as it is "one of the most serious" duties given to Congress — and to "mislead the American public" through his remarks.

The House Intelligence chairman had given a "more dramatic" version of the phone call during his opening statement at the committee hearing featuring Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire on Thursday.

Schiff was called out for his version of the events and claimed later on during the hearing that what he said was "part in parody" of the actual conversation.

The unredacted transcript of the conversation was released a day prior to the hearing after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced an impeachment inquiry into the president regarding the whistleblower complaint surrounding the call.
