Pro-Trump GOP lawmaker calls for release of Dem memo, says Americans deserve to see it

February 10, 2018

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) said he's in favor of releasing the Democratic memo countering the GOP document alleging that the Justice Department abused a surveillance program against a Trump campaign adviser.

"I support the declassification of the Democrats' memo - once the necessary redactions have been made. The American people deserve to read both memos side by side," Biggs tweeted Saturday.

The Republican, who has been a supporter of Trump, also said during an appearance on Fox News's "America's News HQ" he was in favor of the memo being released.

"The reality is that I want that Democrat memo released, we all do," he said.

The comments come one day after Trump decided to not yet declassify the Democratic memo. White House counsel Don McGahn said in a letter to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) that the memo's release would create "especially significant concerns" for "national security and law enforcement interests."

Trump also tweeted Saturday that Democrats knew the memo "would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency. Told them to re-do and send back in proper form!"

Biggs also suggested on Fox News that Democrats could have relied heavily on information from classified documents when creating the memo to force Trump to not be able to release it in full.
