Congressman Biggs: Biden-Harris DHS Advertising Campaign Demonstrates Continued Pattern of Putting Illegal Aliens Over Americans

November 1, 2024

Today, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) introduced the No Funding for Illegal Migrant Billboards Act, legislation to prohibit federal funds from being used to publicly advertise the functions of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman (OIDO).

Recently, DHS-funded billboards advertising “rights” for individuals in “immigration custody” have been spotted in Arizona and Texas, drawing massive public scrutiny—one U.S. Border Patrol agent called the billboards “a slap in the face to all Americans.”

These taxpayer-funded billboards are further evidence of the Biden-Harris Administration’s preference for putting the interests of illegal aliens ahead of U.S. citizens.

The No Funding for Illegal Migrant Billboards Act would ensure that Americans’ taxpayer dollars are not used to further erode the immigration system upon which the Biden-Harris Administration has already wreaked havoc.

Congressman Biggs is also leading a letter to Michelle Brané, Director of OIDO, demanding that she answer pressing questions relating to the billboards, such as the total amount spent on the billboards and the duration of the billboard campaign.

“That DHS is spending taxpayer dollars to further exacerbate the Harris-Biden regime’s border crisis is abhorrent and must not be tolerated,” said Congressman Biggs.

“This Administration has made a mockery of our immigration system for years. They have illegally undermined federal law at every turn, creating pathway after pathway for illegal entry without the authority to do so. Congress must, for once, honor our constitutional duty to check the Administration with the power of the purse.

“I’m thankful for the support of my colleagues and urge House Leadership to immediately bring this legislation to the Floor upon our return to Washington, DC.”

Cosponsors of the No Funding for Illegal Migrant Billboards Act are: Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT), Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT), Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA), Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN), Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA), Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC), Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX), Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK), and Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD)
