Congressman Biggs Demands Transparency from Biden-Harris DOJ on Illegal Aliens Assaulting CBP Agents
On Friday, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) led letters to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Deputy Commissioner Troy Miller and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland regarding alarming reports of illegal aliens physically assaulting CBP agents while crossing the southwest border. In Fiscal Year 2023, CBP reported that 610 agents were assaulted, while in Fiscal Year 2024, at least 413 agents were assaulted.
In August, CBP issued a press release stating that Border Patrol, specifically in the El Paso Sector, is seeing a “significant rise” in assaults on agents. Reports that the Biden-Harris Department of Justice (DOJ) is failing to prosecute illegal aliens who attack federal officers are concerning and likely contributing to losses in morale and support among CBP personnel. It is crucial to ensure that these violent illegal aliens are prosecuted not only for illegal entry into the country but also for assaulting federal officers.
“Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s egregious open border policies incentivize mass illegal immigration and open our country to violent criminals from around the globe,” said Congressman Biggs.
“Our Border Patrol Agents put their lives on the line every single day and deserve much more respect than they’ve been given by this rogue administration. That agents are being assaulted in the first place is despicable, but DOJ’s failure to prosecute them accordingly is unacceptable.
“I’m grateful for the support of my colleagues on this important issue as we await answers from Garland’s DOJ.”
