Congressman Biggs Exposes Democrats’ Hypocrisy with Partisan Legislation

January 30, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Biggs voted no on H.Res. 79, a suspension bill designed to place blame for the Democrats' partial government shutdown over border security funding. The suspension needed two-thirds of the House to pass, but failed to obtain the necessary votes. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:

"In introducing this cynical resolution, the Democratic majority seeks to give their members talking points to use against the President and Republican members should another impasse occur. This is another ploy to distract from their unwillingness to fund true border security. Republicans do not want to shut down the government, yet we will fight for border security funding to defend innocent Americans at our southern border and around the country. As representatives of the people, this is our right, our responsibility, and our duty. If Democrats believed that Congress should keep the government funded and operated at all costs, they would have voted for the December continuing resolution that included border wall funding. They obstructed the passage of that bill, proving they would rather shut the government down than to secure a portion of our border. This is hypocrisy at its finest, and why I did not vote for their partisan messaging bill."
