Congressman Biggs Hosts Drug Czar Sara Carter in Arizona

June 1, 2026

GILBERT, ARIZONA – Last week, Congressman Andy Biggs (AZ-05) hosted Sara Carter, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, in Arizona as the Trump Administration continues to address the drug crisis left behind by the Biden-Harris Administration. Arizona’s status is unique among the fifty states; while most others saw a decrease in drug overdose deaths in 2025, Arizona saw an increase in deaths overall and a spike in fentanyl-related deaths.

U.S. Congressman Eli Crane (AZ-02) also joined Congressman Biggs and Director Carter for the meetings.

Congressmen Biggs and Crane and Director Carter met with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officials, Tribal partners, local law enforcement and Angel Families who have lost loved ones as a result of dangerous open-border policies that empowered drug cartels to flood our nation with illicit substances and human trafficking. Through these meetings, they learned more about the challenges facing the nation's drug trafficking corridor and discussed how federal officials can support local communities and families in educating and protecting against all types of substance overdoses.

“I’m thankful to have hosted my friend Sara Carter for meetings with key partners and stakeholders in Arizona’s fight to end the war on drugs in our state,” said Congressman Biggs. “President Trump and Director Carter understand the seriousness of this war, and they aren’t just talking about ending it; they are committing significant resources from the federal government to save as many lives as possible. I’m grateful for Director Carter’s comprehensive National Drug Control Strategy and her commitment to working alongside Arizona stakeholders to end the drug crisis plaguing too many of our communities. My office pledges to work with this administration and state partners to end this scourge upon innocent men, women, and children."

"It was a great honor to join Congressmen Biggs and Crane in Arizona, a beautiful state that is fighting back against the drug crisis,” said National Drug Control Policy Director Sara Carter.“During my time in Arizona, I met with Tribal leadership, law enforcement, and Angel families. These communities know firsthand the devastating impact of illicit drugs. President Trump and his administration will continue to fight for our citizens until every American is free to live a safe and healthy life, free from the scourge of illicit drugs.”

“Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining Rep. Andy Biggs and Director Sara Carter of the Office of National Drug Control Policy,”said Congressman Eli Crane.“Throughout the day, we met with Tribal leaders to strengthen partnerships to prevent overdoses, visited the DEA’s Phoenix facility to speak with personnel on the front lines, and spent time with angel families grieving the loss of loved ones to the border crisis. These conversations are critical to strengthening effective partnerships, and I’m grateful to everyone who made these visits possible, especially Rep. Biggs and Director Carter. I look forward to continuing this important dialogue and advancing our shared priorities.”
