Congressman Biggs Introduces the One Bill, One Subject Transparency Act
GILBERT, ARIZONA – Congressman Andy Biggs introduced the One Bill, One Subject Transparency Act, to limit Congress from legislating on more than one matter at a time. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:
"It's time for Congress to implement policies that make it easier for the American people to understand and stay abreast of the legislative process. Too often, congressional leaders use ‘must-pass bills,' such as those funding the government or reauthorizing an expiring program, as methods for passing laws that may have failed if considered on their own. Allowing leaders to tuck unrelated provisions into a larger legislative package often leads to government growth, unconstitutional spending, and overall lack of accountability.
"Many states, including Arizona, have similar rules in their state constitutions. The American people deserve to know where their federal legislators stand on issues and deserve the right to hold them accountable for their vote on every new law. The ‘One Bill, One Subject Transparency Act' will raise the level of integrity in Congress and restore some of the faith the American people have lost in their elected leaders."
Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
