Congressman Biggs Opposes Democrats’ Power Grab of American Elections

March 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the Democrat Politician Protection Act. Congressman Biggs voted against the measure and issued the following statement:

"Speaker Pelosi wasted no time in trying to change America's election laws to ensure that Democrats will maintain majorities in Congress for years to come. The ‘Democrat Politician Protection Act' transforms our election systems by centralizing most decisions in the Washington, D.C. bureaucracy. It shatters the authority of states recognized in the 10th Amendment, and it opens up our election systems to more corruption, chaos, and incompetence. This bill represents one of the most egregious federal government power grabs in American history.

"Republicans support efficient and legal access to voting. However, each state has a responsibility to administer its elections in a free and open manner. H.R. 1 destroys the integrity of our electoral processes and sets American elections on a treacherous path. The ACLU and the National Right to Life rarely agree, but both organizations concur that this bill should be defeated. I opposed this bill, and I will continue to advocate for election integrity not a Democrat power grab."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek.
