Congressman Biggs Responds to ‘Concentration Camp’ Comment

June 18, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Biggs responded to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's claim that the administration "has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants…"

"Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez's comments were despicable, and I call on her to immediately retract her irresponsible words. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez's comparison shows an utter disregard for history and the millions of Jewish and non-Jewish people killed by starvation, gassing and death squads at these camps.

"Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is correct to point out the overcrowded conditions at detention facilities along our southern border, but she fails to point the finger in the direction of those responsible for those conditions and the escalating crisis at the border: herself and her colleagues on the Left. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and her colleagues across the aisle continue to block President's Trump's request of $4.5 billion dollars to improve the conditions at the border, specifically to feed and shelter illegal alien families and unaccompanied children, and to fund urgent medical treatment.

"Instead of alarmist rhetoric, I call on my Democrat colleagues to join us in our efforts to secure the border, eliminate incentives for illegal entry, and provide funding for the humanitarian crisis caused by Congress's inaction."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek.
