Congressman Biggs' Statement on Congressman Mark Meadows' Announced Retirement from Congress

December 19, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Mark Meadows announced that he would not be seeking reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"Since I entered Congress in 2017, Congressman Meadows has been a valued friend, colleague, and mentor. He led the House Freedom Caucus with courage and foresight, allowing our caucus to greatly expand its influence in the Republican conference. Few Members of Congress have had the impact on the House of Representatives that Mark Meadows has had this past decade.

"Not only is Mark a top-notch conservative, he's an upstanding individual, who looks to build friendships with all of his colleagues. In a growing partisan climate, Mark's example is a breath of fresh air and one that we all should strive to emulate. I will miss his presence in Congress. America will miss his conservative voice in Congress. This institution will miss his leadership, and I will miss his friendship and association in Congress. I look forward to seeing what this talented and gentle man will do to bless this nation. God bless Mark, Debbie, and their wonderful family."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
