Congressman Biggs' Statement on New Funding for Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Tower

February 13, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that it will award $10 million to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport to begin construction of a new air traffic control tower. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"This grant is an enormous victory not only for the East Valley, but for the entire Phoenix metropolitan area. From the moment I entered office in 2017, I have fought hard to secure the necessary funding for Gateway Airport to replace its fifty-year-old air traffic control tower, which is woefully inadequate to serve the over 1.7 million air travelers who passed through Mesa last year. A new tower will allow Gateway Airport to enhance and greatly expand its operations, bringing even more business and tourism dollars to our already booming state. This was a team effort from the Arizona Congressional delegation and local officials."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
