Congressman Biggs' Statement on Ninth Circuit's Sanctuary Cities Funding Ruling

August 1, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against President Trump's 2017 executive order that withholds federal funds from certain U.S. cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration laws, remanding the case to the lower courts for further consideration. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:

"The Ninth Circuit continues its assault on the Constitutional structure of three equal branches of government with this decision. Congress, those closest to the people, are tasked with writing legislation and the President is charged with enforcing America's laws. The judicial branch is tasked with applying the law as it is written in the Constitution and the statutes. Judges should not let their political views guide their decision-making. Cities, counties, and states that disregard our laws hold the Constitution in contempt, and the Executive Branch is justified in taking action to enforce the laws. President Trump was right to demand adherence to immigration enforcement laws. Jurisdictions seeking to shield themselves from these laws put their citizens at risk. I hope the U.S. Supreme Court will soon grant certiorari for this case and overturn this ruling."
