Congressman Biggs' Statement on Proposed State of the Union Changes

January 16, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked President Trump to postpone the delivery of his State of the Union address in writing, Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"Speaker Pelosi has spent the opening days of her Speakership opposing President Trump's attempts to build the wall and secure our border. By proposing to prevent the President from delivering the State of the Union in person at the Capitol, Speaker Pelosi is preventing the American people from hearing from their duly-elected President on the issues that are impacting them, including his plans to secure the border. She is censoring this vital message for transparent political purposes.

"Americans should see her proposal for what it is: more obstructionist tactics by Democrats to delay our much-needed border security. I hope President Trump delivers his State of the Union as planned, in person. I call on my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to support the timely delivery on the state of the union as required by the Constitution."
