Congressman Biggs Supports President Trump's Continued Efforts to Secure America's Border
GILBERT, ARIZONA – This afternoon, President Donald Trump used his first-ever veto to protect his emergency declaration to secure America's border. Congressman Biggs, who supported the President's emergency declaration, issued the following statement:
"President Trump correctly used his delegated powers to issue a national emergency to secure the southern border. I wholly support his veto of Speaker Pelosi's cynical and political resolution. Unfortunately, the American people have witnessed this Congress spending more time to undermine the President's sincere efforts to secure the border and protect Americans than to try to solve the humanitarian, trafficking, and security crises.
"I continue to learn more about the complexity and necessity of border security every time I go there to assess the situation on the ground. Our Border Patrol agents are undermanned, and they lack the resources to do their jobs. Our ICE agents are under assault from illegal aliens and elected officials who demonize them. Innocent family members live without loved ones due to violent illegal aliens. Illicit drugs and human trafficking victims are smuggled into this country every day. This is an emergency. I call on my colleagues to stop obstructing President Trump's efforts to secure the border, and to start becoming part of the solution."
Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek.
