Congressman Biggs Urges HASC Chairman Rogers to Reaffirm Congressional Support for Israel in FY24 National Defense Authorization Act

November 21, 2023

Today, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) sent a letter to Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Committee on Armed Services (HASC), and the 70 other House members who have been named to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Committee regarding his amendment to the House-passed NDAA for Fiscal Year 2024. Congressman Biggs’s amendment expressed the United States’s commitment to Israel and was included in the House-passed version of the bill as Section 1220E. Today’s letter urges Chairman Rogers and House conferees to support inclusion of Section 1220E into the final text of the FY24 NDAA. Section 1220E states the following:

(1) since 1948, Israel has been one of the strongest friends and allies of the United States;
(2) Israel is a stable, democratic country in a region often marred by turmoil;
(3) it is essential to the strategic interest of the United States to continue to offer security assistance and related support to Israel; and
(4) such assistance and support is especially vital as Israel confronts a number of potential challenges at the present time, including continuing threats from Iran.

“I strongly condemn Hamas’s heinous attacks on Israel. Hamas thugs are filled with pure evil and are needlessly perpetrating heinous acts of terrorism. I fully support Israel’s right to defend itself from those who wish to eradicate it. The United States must continue to make clear its unwavering support for one of its closest allies.

“America stands with Israel. I look forward to Congressman Rogers’s inclusion of this section,”said Congressman Biggs.
