Congressman Biggs Votes Against Partisan Ex-Im Bank Reauthorization Bill

November 15, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4863 to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank (Ex-Im) for ten years and increase its portfolio cap over that period to $175 billion. Congressman Biggs joined 178 fellow Republicans to vote against this bill and offered the following statement:

"Unfortunately, this was another missed opportunity to work together to pass a bipartisan bill that benefits all Americans. I could not support a bill to grant a taxpayer-funded agency the authority to fast-track key economic decisions without appropriate oversight, favor some businesses over others for arbitrary political reasons, or provide taxpayer-backed financing to entities owned and controlled by the Chinese government, including enterprises involved in military activities and human rights abuses. Unfortunately, Congresswoman Waters' (D-CA) partisan bill won't strengthen business, nor will it help them to compete on the world stage."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
