Congressman Biggs Votes YES on USMCA

December 19, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Biggs voted in favor of the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement championed by President Trump. The trade pact now heads to the U.S. Senate for ratification. Congressman Biggs offered the following statement:

"While the USMCA is not perfect—no trade agreement of this size or scope ever could be—I commend President Trump for this historic achievement, which is a testament to years of tough negotiations with Mexico and Canada. Once ratified, the USMCA will create hundreds of thousands of new American jobs and add billions of dollars to the U.S. economy, which Arizona, as a border state, is perfectly positioned to benefit from. Our farmers will be able to sell to new markets, our exporters will deal with fewer paperwork headaches at the border, and our growing e-commerce sector will gain greater certainty that its intellectual property is being protected. Arizona businesses of all sizes—big and small—received an enormous boost from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act; I urge the Senate to act quickly to ensure that they receive similar benefit from the USMCA.

"I have addressed the imperfections of this trade agreement with the Administration, U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer, and the appropriate congressional committee chairmen. I have received assurances that my concerns will be addressed and corrections will be made."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
