Democrats Move Closer to Partisan Impeachment of President Trump

September 24, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Biggs responded to the growing number of partisan Democrats clamoring for impeachment of President Donald Trump:

"House Democrats could have used their time in the majority to work constructively with President Trump to sustain America's economic momentum, secure our border, and lower health care costs. Instead, they have prioritized impeachment over the needs and prosperity of their country.

"What are the grounds for impeachment of President Donald Trump? Originally, Democrats charged the Trump campaign with conspiring with Russians to influence the 2016 election. That was a hoax all along. They waited breathlessly for Special Counsel Robert Mueller to complete his investigation and report, hoping that if not collusion, obstruction charges would be levied against President Trump. They've harassed his businesses, his banks, and his family. And now they are turning to unverified, unfounded rumors from unidentified sources without firsthand knowledge to claim the President acted improperly in a conversation with a foreign leader. Instead of waiting to see if there is evidence to support their allegations, they press on, because their sole goal is to remove President Trump from office at all costs.

"In running down the path of impeachment, Democrats are dividing the country in a way that will take a generation to overcome. My colleagues across the aisle should not continue with this partisan endeavor. It will backfire, and America will be worse off."
