House Democrats Close in on Their Fantasies of Impeaching President Donald Trump

October 31, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.Res.660 – a feeble attempt to justify their closed-door, Soviet-style impeachment inquisition of President Donald Trump. Two Democrats joined all Republicans in voting against this resolution. Congressman Biggs opposed the resolution and issued the following statement:

"After weeks of Adam Schiff's closed-door, Soviet-style, Stalinist hearings, Speaker Nancy Pelosi finally admitted that Democrats should have voted on a formal impeachment inquiry from the beginning. Too little, too late. Chairman Schiff has run these proceedings devoid of truth, transparency, and due process. He has ensured that this process, including today's vote, will forever be remembered with partisan distain.

"Democrats are congratulating themselves over today's vote, but in reality, few things have changed. Adam Schiff continues to schedule hearings behind closed doors – even next week, when most Members of Congress will be away from D.C. and back in our districts. The resolution consolidates power of the inquisition to Adam Schiff's committee alone for the time being, and it denies the Republicans the same rights guaranteed to the Democrats in both the Nixon and Clinton impeachments. Republicans gave President Clinton more due process than these Democrats are affording President Trump in this political sham.

"This is a political sham. Democrats and their allies in the media have been working towards the impeachment of Donald J. Trump since the day he was sworn into office. For three years, they have shifted their charges against the President in desperate hopes of finding something – anything – to justify their political hatred of America's Commander in Chief – regardless of the substance or veracity of their allegations. Today, Democrats may be closer to realizing their dreams and fantasies, but the American people should not stand for their shameful actions."
