House Democrats Pass Appropriations Bill to Thwart President Trump’s Agenda

June 19, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, House Democrats continued to ignore desperately needed funding to address the national security and humanitarian crisis at the southern border by passing H.R. 2740 - Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:

"Instead of finding solutions to solve the immediate crisis at the border, Democrats crafted this appropriations bill to thwart President Trump's successful agenda for the American people. H.R. 2740 ignores Washington's spending problem by increasing discretionary spending and adding to our rapidly growing deficit. This legislation blocks the administration from withholding taxpayer funding from abortion programs within Title X, stops the administration's conscience protection efforts, and scales back charter school funding. Further, the bill prohibits the administration from using defense funding or the Civil Works program to secure our border to counter human and drug trafficking, reduces funding for our missile defense research and development, allows taxpayer dollars to fund overseas abortions, and restores elements of the Paris Climate Agreement.

"House Democrats are holding President Trump's agenda hostage within the appropriations process, risking deadlock and potential lapse of government funding, to promote their radical values and policies. I call on my colleagues across the aisle to drop their adherence to rigid ideology and to work with Republicans on policies that empower and protect Americans."
