House Judiciary Democrats Call Biased Former Watergate Operative to Testify

June 3, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler announced a hearing next week with former White House Counsel John Dean, a key witness in the Watergate proceedings. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"The Democrats' double standard intensifies. They hold Attorney General Barr in contempt for following the law in protecting a small section of grand jury and classified information, but allow Robert Mueller the discretion to refuse an appearance before Congress. Instead of hearing from the architect of the flawed Mueller Report, Democrats are now calling a biased witness, who was convicted of criminal charges for his role in the Watergate scandal and who has called President Trump a ‘nitwit,' to help frame a narrative for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. This is a travesty of epic proportions. Our constituents did not send us to Washington to relitigate decades-old matters or to create make-believe ‘high crimes and misdemeanors' to undermine a political foe. They want results and better lives. Let's stop this witch hunt and give our constituents what they deserve."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
