House Judiciary Democrats Take Big Step to Overturn the 2016 Election

December 13, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, House Judiciary Committee Democrats approved two Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump, sending them to the House floor. The vote came after Chairman Jerry Nadler recessed the committee overnight in a show of bad faith to the Republicans and to the process – in order to hold the vote this morning in front of the cameras. Congressman Biggs voted against the articles and issued the following statement:

"Last night's stunning turn of events was yet another in a long line of dishonest, bad-faith maneuvers from the Democrats. They have proven at every step of this impeachment process that they will do and say anything to accomplish their partisan, vindictive goal. Republicans will remember Chairman Nadler's shameful action for a long time to come.

"For three years, Democrats have been obsessed with impeaching President Trump. They took a big step to overturning the 2016 presidential election with their vote. This process was designed to attain a predetermined outcome--impeachment. Democrats have lied about the content of the July 25 call, met secretly with the whistleblower, held Soviet-style hearings behind closed doors, blocked the President's counsel from participating in the fact-finding portion of the inquisition, refused to allow Republicans to call key witnesses, obstructed Republicans from asking questions, broke key House rules, and contorted the facts and context behind the Ukraine phone call to fit their pre-determined narrative.

"The facts are on the President's side and these facts have not changed. The President showed unprecedented transparency by releasing the transcript of the July 25 call, and the transcript showed no quid pro quo or any crime. President Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials have repeatedly stated that there was no pressure involving the foreign aid. At the time of the call, President Zelensky didn't even know the aid had been temporarily withheld (while U.S. officials worked to ensure that the new Ukrainian administration was committed to anti-corruption measures). And finally, Ukraine received aid within the parameters of the law.

"Americans are tired of the Democrats' attacks on the President and this nation. During a time of year when all Americans should be coming together in joy and peace, Democrats have willfully chosen to divide the nation in their attempt to overturn the will of 63 million voters who supported President Trump in the 2016 election. This is outrageous. History will not remember kindly the Democrats' attempts to harass the President and interfere in the 2020 election. My colleagues should reconsider their course."
