Speaker Pelosi Directs Committees to Draft Partisan, Vindictive Articles of Impeachment

December 6, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi directed her committee chairmen to begin drafting Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"In what is typically a season of joy and reflection for the nation, Speaker Pelosi has gifted America an impeachment that will bring further division, unhappiness, and animus. Speaker Pelosi is rushing her illegitimate impeachment sham through the House before a self-imposed Christmas deadline, ignoring all evidence that clears President Trump from impeachable offenses, and in contravention of historical precedent and House rules. Speaker Pelosi has stated that President Trump is a threat to ‘our democracy.' If this were the case, why did she allow the House to recess all of August, a week in September, two weeks in October, and eleven days for the Thanksgiving holiday? As Professor Jonathan Turley stated in Monday's House Judiciary hearing, this is the Democrats' abuse of power for the manner and speed in which they have conducted this impeachment inquisition.

"The facts are on President Trump's side, and the American people understand the Democrats' vindictive efforts against our duly elected President. The Democrats threatened to impeach President Trump just months after he was inaugurated. They first tried to use Special Counsel Mueller and the Russian hoax to accomplish their dirty work. When that failed, they perpetuated the Ukraine phone call hoax. As they proceed down this impeachment path, Democrats manipulated evidence, distorted context, and removed any semblance of due process. Surprising no one, their predetermined outcome will accomplish their goal: impeachment of their hated, political opponent.

"The 116th Congress may be one of the most consequential in American history. Democrats have prioritized impeachment above all else. History will not look favorably on their efforts to impeach a president simply because they don't like what he stands for or that he keeps his promises to the American people. Their disregard for process and willingness to rely on innuendo and gossip, rather than direct evidence, weakens this institution and will leave future Presidents in jeopardy of blatantly, politically motivated impeachments. Republicans stand united against the Democrats' warped, frustrated schemes to overthrow the will of the nation. Democrats may be able to impeach President Trump simply because they have the numbers, but the American people will remember their partisan actions at the ballot box next November."
