Two Biggs’ Amendments Included in the FY ’20 National Defense Authorization Act

July 11, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed two amendments, led by Congressman Biggs, for inclusion in H.R. 2500, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. The first amendment requires the Secretary of Defense to submit a report to Congress on annual defense spending by ally and partner countries. The second amendment expresses a sense of Congress about the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:

"President Trump continually reminds our NATO allies of their obligations to increase spending for their defense. Our allies should pay their share of the expense to maintain defense alliances and combat readiness. The annual report required by my amendment will help us ensure accountability and transparency for these efforts.

"Effective foreign policy in the Middle East begins with an acknowledgement of Israel as one of our nation's strongest allies. As Israel continues to confront security challenges, particularly with Iran, it is in America's national strategic interest to continue to offer full security assistance to Israel. My amendment provides a full endorsement from the U.S. Congress on the importance of the United States-Israel relationship. We unequivocally stand with Israel."

Congressman Andy Biggs is a second-term Representative from Arizona's Fifth Congressional District, representing parts of Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Queen Creek. Congressman Biggs is a member of the House Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology committees. He lives with his wife, Cindy, in Gilbert.
