The House Freedom Caucus changed its leadership team Tuesday, picking Rep. Andy Biggs, Arizona Republican, to lead the conservative group.

Mr. Biggs, who is in his second term representing Arizona's 5th Congressional District, vowed to continue what he called the group's principles-first approach.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., on Tuesday was picked to replace Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., as the new chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.

Biggs in a press release said the caucus must continue its fight against increased government spending and border security.

The caucus must also "work to lower health care costs and improve access and quality for all Americans," he said. "We will stand with President Trump as he keeps his promises to the American people. And we will never forget the people who sent us to Congress to work on their behalf."

Rep. Andy Biggs has been named the new head of the House Freedom Caucus, confirming his rising status among the most conservative voices on Capitol Hill.

On Oct. 1, midway through his second term, Biggs, R-Ariz., will take the reins of one of the most high-profile cliques in Congress that includes all four Republican members of Arizona's House delegation and more than three dozen overall from across the country.

The conservative House Freedom Caucus has a new leader.

The hard-line group has elected Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) to be the new Freedom Caucus chief, replacing Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.).

"I'm grateful for the trust of my colleagues in selecting me to serve as the next chairman of the House Freedom Caucus," Biggs said in a statement on Tuesday.Meadows, a founding Freedom Caucus member and one of President Donald Trump's closest allies on Capitol Hill, will step down Oct. 1 but is expected to remain on the group's board.
