"Hurricane Harvey ravaged Texas and Louisiana last week, tragically leaving a path of destruction in its wake. Since the hurricane, countless Americans have generously donated their money, time, and labor to those in need. Today, Congress attempted to provide additional relief. Unfortunately, I felt compelled to vote no.

PHOENIX — An Arizona congressman said Wednesday he voted against aid for Hurricane Harvey victims because it was attached to a different bill he opposed.

Republican U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs said the $7.9 billion for Harvey victims was passed as part of the READ Act, which would make the government bigger and and tie foreign assistance to education programs in some countries.

PHOENIX — A week after President Donald Trump threatened to shut down the government unless he gets funding for a border wall between the United States and Mexico, an Arizona congressman said that may not be what the country wants.

"I don't think people really want to shut down government," Republican Rep. Andy Biggs told KTAR News 92.3 FM's Arizona's Morning News on Tuesday.
