Story by KTAR — PHOENIX — As Donald Trump officially made the transition from president-elect to 45th president of the United States on Friday, several Arizona lawmakers traveled to D.C. — and used social media to document history taking place.

Arizona Sen. John McCain sent out a tweet late Friday afternoon, congratulating the president and Vice President Mike Pence and looking ahead to "address the many challenges facing our nation."

It's an amazing time to be in Washington, D.C. Many people are filled with great optimism for our country. Hundreds of thousands of people are here for this occasion, and millions more tuned into the event on their televisions or live-streamed from their computers.

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Andy Biggs introduced the Protection from Obamacare Mandates and Congressional Equity Act. This legislation provides an exemption to the Obamacare individual mandate for individuals residing in counties with fewer than two health insurance issuers offering plans on an Exchange. It also ends the loophole for members of Congress and congressional staff to opt out of the Obamacare exchanges. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Biggs voted YES on S. Con. Res. 3. Congressman Biggs released the following statement after his vote:

"Today, I voted YES on S. Con. Res. 3 to begin the Obamacare repeal process. Obamacare has been an abject failure, raising insurance premiums, increasing deductibles, and causing millions of Americans to lose their doctors. This week's congressional action is the first step towards giving the keys to true health care reform back to the free market and the states, and I am proud to have cast this vote."
