Yesterday, Congressman Andy Biggs sent a letter along with 13 Republican members from the House of Representatives to Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack. The department is threatening to withhold funding for school meal programs unless local schools indoctrinate children about radical gender identity programs.

The federal government has no rightful place in our education system. Yet Congress and the Department of Education have continuously imposed their own priorities by tying education policies to sought-after federal funding. It is through this process that states were coerced into adopting the Common Core State Standards. It is time we start reversing this trend and returning power to states and local communities who can best determine the needs of our students.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Biggs introduced the Native American Education Opportunity Act, which establishes a five-year pilot program to allow Tribes to create an education savings account (ESA) for Tribal enrolled students who currently attend Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools. The Native American Education Opportunity Program would be funded through Title II of the Every Students Succeeds Act, of which $8,000 would be deposited into a student's ESA.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Andy Biggs announced the introduction of H.R. 1462, the Ending Common Core and Expanding School Choice Act. This legislation repeals Title I-A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to roll back stringent federal policies on annual assessments, academic standards, and accountability systems that hamper states' ability to best meet the needs of our students. It also prevents the federal government from mandating or incentivizing adoption of Common Core or any other set of standards or curriculum.
