Congressman Biggs Introduces Legislation to Responsibly Provide Military and Security Assistance to Israel
Today, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) introduced the Fiscally Responsible Israel Supplemental Act, 2024—legislation that would provide $17.6 billion in military and security assistance to Israel and pay for that spending by repealing the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA)’s Department of Commerce and IRS “slush fund” created during debt ceiling negotiations last summer. This assistance includes funding to reinforce Israel’s defense systems, replenish U.S. military operations in the region, and protect U.S. personnel and citizens in Israel. On October 7th, Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel and massacred more than 1,400 Israelis, while taking hundreds more hostage over the month. Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted against a security supplemental for Israel as the package offered no spending offsets to fund the aid.
“Israel remains America’s greatest ally and deserves to be protected from barbaric actors like Hamas,” said Congressman Andy Biggs. “In November, Speaker Johnson paired Israel aid with the necessary offset on the floor, but Senator Schumer torpedoed the package in the Senate. The House shouldn’t stop there and cave to Senator Schumer’s demands for a clean spending package. My legislation grants an opportunity to financially support Israel without having to borrow money.”
