Once again, the United States Congress is putting its inability to manage its pocketbook on display for the world to see. Disaster relief? Spitball some numbers, in excess of $100 billion, don’t figure out a way to pay for it; include pedestrian trails and military bases and pet projects in 40 different states—the vast majority not impacted by the hurricanes—and call it good.
Today, the House passed H.R. 115, Midnight Rules Relief Act, sponsored by Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ), by a vote of 210-201. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement on the House’s passage of his legislation:
Why do Republicans insist on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory? We won the election. We have a mandate. We have slim majorities in Congress, but the American people sent Washington, D.C. a signal to end business as usual.
