Congressman Andy Biggs has landed a subcommittee chairmanship, a signal of confidence from fellow Republicans in the freshman.

Biggs will head the Environment subcommittee within the Science, Space and Technology Committee. It's a mouthful, but it allows Biggs to pick up a gavel not long after he wielded one as Arizona's state Senate president.


February 2, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Biggs (AZ-05) joined the Congressional Western Caucus. The stated mission of the Western Caucus is to enhance, sustain and preserve the West's dynamic and unique culture, and to find innovative solutions that address the distinctive concerns facing western and rural communities. The Western Caucus includes over 50 House members, including three from Arizona. Congressman Paul Gosar (AZ-04) serves as the chair of the Caucus. Congressman Biggs released the following statement:

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andy Biggs was named chairman of the Subcommittee on Environment on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee. The Environment Subcommittee has jurisdiction on all matters relating to environmental research, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, risk assessment activities, scientific issues related to environmental policy, remote sensing data, and other appropriate matters. Arizona Republicans are tired of being covered by one of the most liberal courts of appeals in the nation, and now they want a court they hope will more accurately reflect the conservative attitudes of the Mountain West.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) has introduced legislation to create a new federal court of appeals to cover district courts in Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Nevada. The new 12th Circuit would carve up the 9th Circuit, the busiest of the 11 circuit courts in the nation.

Washington, D.C. – Today, President Donald Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to replace the-late Antonin Scalia on the U.S. Supreme Court. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

President Trump correctly realizes that our regulatory system has severely stifled our economy, small business growth and has hurt American job opportunities from the west coast to the east coast.

Seeking a court system more in line with Arizona's politics, the state's Republican lawmakers are making a new push to move the state out of the federal appeals court that includes California.

Washington, D.C. – On January 4, 2017, Congressman Andy Biggs (AZ-05) introduced H.R. 250 – the Judicial Administration and Improvement Act. H.R. 250 creates a new, Twelfth Circuit Court of Appeals. In doing so, Arizona, along with Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Nevada, would be removed from the Ninth Federal Circuit Court and into the Twelfth. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:
