Today, Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) introduced the Modernizing Retrospective Regulatory Review Act—legislation that would enable federal agencies to efficiently and accurately review regulations that may be outdated, redundant, or contain typographical errors. According to a 2016 study by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, regulatory accumulation has resulted in an estimated $4 trillion loss in U.S. GDP from the 1980s to 2012.
